FAQs
Questions homeowners actually ask.
Grouped by solution. Don't see your question? Reach out directly.
Do I need internet access for my security cameras to work?
Yes — remote viewing and mobile alerts require a Wi-Fi or wired internet connection at the property. We'll confirm signal strength at each camera location during the walkthrough.
Can I view footage on my phone?
Yes. Every system we install is set up for remote viewing, so you can check live feeds and recorded footage from your phone whether you're home or away.
What's the difference between indoor and outdoor cameras?
Outdoor cameras are weatherproof and built to handle rain, heat, and cold, typically with a wider field of view. Indoor cameras are built for tighter spaces and often include two-way audio. We'll recommend the right mix for your property.
Do you install video doorbells too?
Yes — video doorbells are one of the most requested additions to a camera system, and we install and integrate them alongside the rest of your security setup.
How much does monitoring cost?
Interactive cellular central station monitoring starts at $25 per month, with no long-term contract and no credit check required.
What happens if the internet goes down?
Our panels connect over 5G cellular across Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, so monitoring keeps working even if your home internet or a single carrier's network goes down.
Can I monitor the system myself instead of paying for central station monitoring?
Yes — we offer self-monitoring with interactive services as well as central station monitoring, and can set up either based on what you prefer.
Does the system cover fire alarm monitoring too?
Yes, fire alarm monitoring can be added to your system alongside burglar alarm monitoring.
Can you fix my existing sound system instead of replacing it?
Yes — we repair and maintain existing sound systems in addition to new installations. We can evaluate what you have and recommend a fix or upgrade.
Do you install hidden or in-wall speakers?
Yes, in-wall and in-ceiling speakers are available for a cleaner look, alongside standard freestanding options.
Is this just for home theaters?
No — we install surround sound and audio systems for businesses as well, including restaurants, offices, and other commercial spaces.
Can my sound system connect to my other smart home devices?
Yes, we integrate audio with home automation and entertainment systems so everything works together.
I already have some smart devices — do I have to replace them?
Usually not. If your existing lights, locks, or thermostat use a common protocol, we can often bring them into the new system rather than ripping them out.
What actually happens if the internet goes down?
Local automations — lights, locks, scenes triggered by switches or sensors — keep working on the local network. Remote app access and voice assistants need internet, so those pause until it's back.
Can this control my security cameras and alarm too?
Yes, where the equipment supports it — that's usually the most useful part, since it means one arm/disarm action can also lock doors and adjust lighting.
How long does a typical automation install take?
A single-room refresh can be a day; a whole-house build-out with new wiring runs longer. We'll give you a real timeline after the walkthrough, not a guess.
Do I need a dedicated room, or can this work in a living room?
Both — a dedicated room gives more control over light and acoustics, but we regularly build strong systems into multi-purpose living rooms and media rooms too.
Is a projector or a large-format TV better?
Depends on ambient light in the room and how large you want to go. We'll walk through the tradeoffs for your specific space rather than push one answer.
Will the system actually get calibrated, or just plugged in?
Calibrated. An uncalibrated theater system almost always underperforms what the equipment is capable of — this step isn't optional in our process.
Can I control the whole room with one remote?
Yes — we set up one-touch scenes so lights, shades, and source switching happen together instead of juggling separate remotes.
Can each zone really play something different at the same time?
Yes — that's the point of true multi-zone audio. Each area plays its own source independently, or you can group zones to share the same audio.
Can the patio or backyard be its own zone?
Yes, outdoor areas are a common zone — see our outdoor living audio & video page for weatherproofing specifics.
Do I need a separate remote for every room?
No — every zone is controlled from one app, and physical wall controls are optional for rooms where you want them.
Is this only for homes?
No, we set up the same kind of zoned systems for businesses that want consistent, controllable background audio.
If I already have Wi-Fi, why would I need wired cabling too?
Wi-Fi is fine for phones and laptops, but devices that need to stay online constantly — cameras, recorders, access control — are more reliable wired. Most properties end up with a hybrid: wired for critical devices, Wi-Fi for everything else.
Will this support cameras and access control on the same network?
Yes — structured cabling is usually the backbone that lets cameras, access control, and automation all run reliably on one network instead of fighting each other.
Is this just for offices, or does it make sense for a house?
Both. Homes with multiple cameras, streaming devices, and smart home gear benefit from the same wired-backbone approach businesses use.
Do you document the network for future troubleshooting?
Yes — you get labeled runs and documentation so anyone (including someone other than us) can understand the setup later.
What kind of credentials can people use to get in?
Depends on the system — key fobs, cards, PIN codes, and mobile-app credentials are all options. We'll recommend what fits your property and how tech-comfortable your users are.
Can I see who came through a door, and when?
Yes — that access log is one of the main reasons businesses upgrade from standard locks.
Does this replace my video cameras, or work alongside them?
Alongside — access control and video surveillance are usually strongest when integrated, so a door event and the camera footage of it line up automatically.
Is this overkill for a small office with one door?
Not necessarily — even a single-door office benefits from being able to revoke a credential instantly instead of re-keying when someone leaves.
Do these need to be hardwired, or can they run on battery?
Both exist — we'll recommend wired or battery-powered motors based on the window's location and how easy it is to run power there.
Can I still open and close them by hand?
Most motorized shades keep manual override in addition to app and schedule control, so a dead battery or app outage doesn't leave you stuck.
Will these work with my existing lighting or automation system?
In most cases yes — we integrate shade control with existing lighting and automation platforms where the equipment supports it.
Can different rooms have different schedules?
Yes — a bedroom can close at sunset while a living room stays open for the evening, all independently scheduled.
Do I need to rewire my house for this?
Usually not — most smart lighting systems work through your existing wiring using smart switches and dimmers rather than a full rewire.
Can I still use a physical switch instead of my phone?
Yes — physical switches keep working alongside app and voice control, and most people end up using all three depending on the moment.
Can lighting respond to my security system automatically?
Yes — lighting can be set to react to sensors, for example flooding a room with light if a door or window sensor trips while the alarm is armed.
What's circadian lighting, and is it worth it in a bedroom?
It's lighting that gradually shifts warmth and brightness through the day — dimmer and warmer at night, brighter and cooler in the morning. Popular in primary bedrooms and home offices.
Will outdoor speakers actually hold up to Georgia summers?
The equipment we install is rated for outdoor use — heat, humidity, and rain exposure — rather than consumer gear repurposed for outdoor use.
Can the patio be part of the same system as my indoor audio?
Yes — outdoor areas are typically set up as additional zones within your existing multi-room audio system, controlled from the same app.
Can Wi-Fi actually reach the pool or the back of the yard?
In most cases yes, with a properly placed outdoor-rated access point rather than relying on an indoor router to reach that far.
What about lightning and storm damage?
We install with surge protection in mind and can talk through what's practical for your specific setup during the walkthrough.
Will this work with the video platform we already use?
Yes — we design conference room AV to work with standard platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams rather than locking you into a proprietary system.
Can you fix a conference room that already has equipment but doesn't work well?
Often, yes — a lot of bad conference room experiences come down to mic or camera placement rather than needing all-new hardware. We can evaluate what's there first.
Do you support multiple conference rooms across one office?
Yes, we design and install for a single room or across several spaces, with consistent operation room to room.
Does training actually happen, or is it just a handoff email?
We walk your team through running a real meeting in person before the job is considered done — not a PDF nobody reads.
Can this be added to my existing burglar alarm system?
In many cases yes — contact us and we can evaluate your current panel to see what's possible without a full system replacement.
How is this different from a regular smoke detector?
A standalone smoke detector only sounds locally. A monitored fire alarm reports the event to a central monitoring station, so help can be dispatched even if no one is home to hear it.
Is this required for businesses, or just recommended?
Depends on the property and local code — some commercial spaces have specific requirements. We can talk through what applies to your building during the assessment.
Can I still use a physical key as backup?
Most smart locks we install support a physical key backup in addition to keyless entry, so a dead battery doesn't lock you out.
Can I give a cleaner or contractor a code that expires?
Yes — temporary or scheduled codes are one of the most common reasons people upgrade, and they can be set to expire automatically or be revoked instantly.
Does this connect to my existing security system?
Where the equipment supports it, yes — we integrate smart locks with existing cameras and alarm systems so entry and security are managed from one place.
Is this good for a short-term rental property?
Yes — the ability to issue and expire unique codes per guest without changing locks between stays is one of the most practical uses of a smart lock.
